Friends of McCarren Park was started to serve as platform to amplify the voices of the many park users who want to see their park cleaner, greener and more active. Our diverse park community includes runners, neighbors, parents, little leaguers, gardeners, dog owners, softball and basketball players and many more. We are volunteers who believe that North Brooklynites deserve a safe, well-kept park with modern facilities, but also actively promotes a healthy lifestyle and offers opportunities for engagement, education, and entertainment. Our goal is to engage a broad coalition of users and stakeholders in improving and activating the park.
We are supported by District 33’s Council Member Steven Levin, who committed $10,000 of his discretionary funds to sponsoring Friends of McCarren Park activities in the 2017 season.
We also work with the Greenpoint Parks Stewardship Program at Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn, as well as NYC Parks.
